Basic Literacy
Building Strong Foundations
LVEP’s basic literacy learners are those adults whose first language is English but have faced challenges in reading and writing that continue to affect everyday life circumstances. For these clients LVEP offers personalized one-on-one tutoring support. To become a basic literacy learner with our program, individuals must contact LVEP at info@lvep-wv.org or be referred by one of our community partners. Intake involves an interview where personal goals are reviewed, and an assessment completed to determine appropriate teaching and learning levels. Tutors are available to work with basic literacy learners in Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan County locations.
The following list is an example of the areas where LVEP can help.
- Clients who need assistance understanding written medication directions.
- Clients who need support completing a job application.
- Clients who require basic skills improvement to enroll in a GED program.
- Clients who need assistance to mitigate life-long or injury-related learning disability effects.
- Clients who need assistance with budgeting and opening a bank account.
- Clients who want to share a love of reading with their grandchildren.
